Le Gai Soleil

The Hotel Gai Soleil was built in 1927 by a Megevan Family, some of whom still live in and around Megeve and like to pop in and visit now and then with the Great Grand Children! The Gai Soleil was one of the first hotels to be built in Megeve and is one of only two hotels remaining from this time. The 4 star Mont Blanc Hotel in the centre of Megeve village is the only other hotel from this period. Having only had 4 owners over the 87 years, the Hotel Gai Soleil has always been a family run hotel and amazingly so far all the children born to the owners have been boys, of which there are 11 over the years! Maybe we can be the first owners to produce a girl one day!! Our ever present member of staff Mumu has been working at the hotel for over 40 years, originally employed to look after the children of the owners. Mumu has worked in many parts of the hotel, including kitchen and most recently the bedrooms. We continue to invest in the hotel year on year, whilst trying to keep some of the original features in place, notably the tiling on the floor of the reception area and the original doors on the bar and restaurant. Some may say a labour of love... In the heart of the Haute Savoie region, Le Gai Soleil is a hotel in the village of Megève. It offers a fitness centre, childrens playground and seasonal heated outdoor pool. Free WiFi is available throughout. The guest rooms Le Gai Soleil overlook the Rochebrune or Jaillet mountains and most have access to a shared balcony. Each is equipped with a flat-screen TV with satellite channels. Le Gai Soleil has an on-site restaurant, which serves traditional French cuisine and specialities from the Savoy region. A large selection of fine wines is available to accompany meals. Additional facilities at the Soleil include a bar and terrace. Boot warmers and ski racks are also provided. Free parking is available on site. Restaurant is closed from Sun 31 Mar 2019 until Sat 08 Jun 2019 High chairs are available free of charge
