Location with an identity relating to its context.Our particular context in Beijing China is in one of the worlds great ancient imperial cities so we can constantly refer in artifacts and form to Chinese culture and try to create a sense of scale.Scale and Chinese culture is the first and primary layer on which we base our guest experience and the sense of “The Where” of being in a recognizable “Place”.Then we present other layers which reflect the personal journey many of our guest follow. Many times literally visiting places in South East Asia and many times reading about the cultures of South East Asia. Visitors and traders to the region encounter constantly the ancient interactions between China and India which continue to echoe and have resonances to this day. This ranges from the mogul impact on India the Buddhist impact on Chinese culture and the many decorative and architectural forms which inter penetrate in so many instances in all the Indo Chinese cultures.So we have collected Indo Chinese artifacts from Burmese borders to Bali from India to China telling an ancient story of trade and cultural interaction processes continuing to this day.In our own small way setting out to resist the homogenizing of societies resisting creating uncritical westernization. To show that you have arrived in a society which is energetic dynamic and enthusiastically embracing the future which has rich vibrant cultural traditions which are fundamental to a new burgeoning arts scene.
