Overview
We serve a simple breakfast. This includes a selection of high quality teas, freshly ground coffee. (i dont have instant) and bread that is freshly made that morning. We also make our own strawberry jam every other day to serve with the bread. Breakfast is served from 6am, (4 or 5am by request) until 8.30am. as this property is really geared up for walkers, runners and cyclist. It will not suit people who wish to indulge in alcohol till late in the evening. Drunkenness will not be tolerated and your stay will be cut short. Consequently I would prefer if you are a smoker or drinker that you chose somewhere else to stay, there are plenty on offer in the village which are also nearer to the local public houses and wine bars. Situated on the summit of Dunmail Raise, the family-run Raise Cottage offers beds in dormitory rooms with free WiFi throughout. Nestled on the slopes of Seat Sandal, it is a prime location for hiking and outdoor activities. Each dormitory room has access to a shared shower room. In the mornings, Raise Cottage offers a portion of cereal and a slice of toast per person, along with tea and coffee in the dining room. With prior request, packed lunches, and evening meals are also available. With a log fire and a garden, Raise Cottage has barbecue facilities. Other facilities offered at the property include a shared lounge. The property is adjacent to the Coast to Coast Path and surrounded by mountain bike routes. The main bus route from Windermere Railway Station to Keswick stops just outside the cottage. Payment before arrival via bank transfer is required. The property will contact you after you book to provide instructions. Please inform Raise Cottage in advance of your expected arrival time. You can use the Special Requests box when booking, or contact the property directly with the contact details provided in your confirmation. Please note that stout footwear is required to access Raise Cottage as it is situated on the fell side. The name of the bus stop next to the property is Dunmail Raise North. If the bus driver does not know the name of this stop, it is next to the old AA box on the top of Dunmail Raise. Directions arriving from the South: Depart the M6 motorway at junction 36 and join the A590 towards Windermere (which soon becomes the A591). From here it is about a 30 miles drive through the South Lakes. Stay on the A591 and pass Kendal before driving through Windemere, Ambleside and Grasmere. Stay on the A591, pass the Swan hotel, Raise Cottage is situated approximately 2 miles past Grasmere and a mile and a half past the Traveller’s Rest pub on the summit of Dunmail Raise. Park in the lay-by on the right hand side of the road (look out for the AA box). Directions arriving from the North: Depart the M6 motorway at junction 40 and drive West on the A66 until reaching Threlkeld. Turn off onto Station Road / B5322 (there will be a brown tourist sign for the mining museum). Join the A591 and pass the King’s Head Hotel, continue for 4 and a half miles enjoying the view of Thilmere Reservoir, Raise Cottage can be found on the left shortly after the dual carriageway. Lookout for the AA box and park in the lay-by on the left hand side of the road.
